Bold From Afar, Exceptional Up Close: Designing Large-Scale Murals That Work at Every Distance

Dubai is a city built to be seen from far away; massive architecture, wide roads, open campuses, warehouse districts. So when you create a large-scale mural here, it can’t just be beautiful, it has to hold its own against buildings.

Large-Scale Murals Are Architectural
There’s a difference between painting a wall, and designing for architecture.
When I painted a double shipping container at English College Dubai, the mural needed to read clearly from across the campus. Strong composition. Clear symbolism. Immediate impact.
And when creating a public-facing exterior mural for Big Brain Training Studio, visibility from the street mattered just as much as detail up close. Large commercial murals aren’t just “bigger paintings”. They are spatial experiences.
Bold at 20 Metres. Exceptional at 20 Centimetres.
This is where the magic happens!
From a distance: The design must be bold, memorable, compositional.
From mid-range: The composition needs rhythm, movement, balance.
Up close: What looked graphic from far away becomes expressive and almost abstract when you stand in front of it.
That dual-view quality is intentional. It means the mural works for:
Passing traffic
Social media photography
Campus identity
Brand visibility
Human curiosity
You can see it from across a carpark, and you can stand 20 centimetres away and still discover something new. That’s what elevates a commercial facade mural from functional to exceptional.

Why Scale Changes Everything
The bigger the wall, the more strategic the thinking.
Large commercial murals must:
Strengthen brand identity
Anchor public space
Add visual value to property
Create a memorable landmark
In a city like Dubai, where architecture competes for attention, wall art must be intentional and impactful.

Scaling Up in Dubai
From shipping containers to warehouses to exterior gym facades, my focus is now firmly on large-scale architectural mural design. Work that feels powerful from across the street; and rewards you when you step closer.
If you’re a developer, school, commercial property owner or architect looking to commission a large-scale mural in Dubai or the UAE, let’s talk.
Big walls deserve brave ideas!
