At the start of the year, I quit my job with one vague idea: paint something.
So I picked a little planter in my garden, nothing fancy or complicated. That tiny project was like dipping my toe into my future.

I could hear the birds singing when I painted their eyes.
This mural, 4.5 metres tall, wraps the back wall of a residential stairwell. It’s one of my favourites to date.

The tree is fictional, but grounded in the real: desert rose, morning glory, frangipani, giant milkweed and date palm.

The birds are my favourite natives: hoopoe, bulbul, parakeet, Indian roller, purple sunbird; watching, whistling, flying, bringing the whole house to life.

This timelapse doesn’t show the shoulder pain or blistered hands from climbing scaffolding...
But it does show the moment it all came together!

Oh how I love to mosaic.

Twelve years ago, we left our lovely home in #RasAlKhaimah… and with it, a 10m-long garden wall mosaic I created over 8 slow, joyful, finger-shredding months.

So when I’m asked to make little mosaic pieces like this, I say yes with utmost joy, especially when I get to use some of the tiles I’ve been lovingly lugging from house to house ever since that project.

We lost our lovely dog William on Tuesday night, at age 15 it was not a surprise but the grief is real and we will miss him so much. He was such a wonderful, sweet, loyal dog. I made these coaster tiles back when the family comprised of just adults and animals. Pretty simple process, just spare tiles and black air-dry tile paint, they didn’t even need firing!

I’ll probably paint a proper portrait of him in the coming days. I can’t quite believe I’ll never see him again.

A little bit of the process, followed up by a beautiful view of these pieces adorning the white walls of their new home. As the mural is painted across 4 panels, wherever the owners end up, they will find somewhere for each piece to go. They can stay as a collection, or be split into individual artworks.

If you’re not sure if you are going to stay put but would like a mural, there are ways around it!

This latest artwork celebrates the UAE’s native birdlife (the falcon gets too much credit), painted on large wooden panels instead of walls so the client can take them wherever life goes.

Teo, age 7, gave me the brief for this mural: Sleepy cats, a peaceful tiger, music, night-time, a Mexican skull, and every colour he could think of.

His mum put it perfectly:
“To see Teo’s wishes considered so carefully, and seemingly random elements brought together into something cohesive but wildly creative - it’s awesome. He feels both pride and total awe.”

It was a real honour to bring Teo’s vision to life. What would your childhood self have added to this brief?

I spent the day painting gum trees and a sandy path to the beach, with “The Potato Factory” in my ears. This scene is based on paths leading to beaches around #newcastle and #portstephens, where I haven’t lived for 18 YEARS. But I still call Australia home.

My booking this week was moved to next week, and I had to paint something! My house is running out of space 😂

This mural nearly broke me.

What started as a clean, structured project turned into utter chaos! But was that a bad thing?

Over five days at World Art Dubai, strangers of all ages collaborated on this wall. I lost control, stressed hard, and eventually made peace with it.

This mural won’t exist for long, it’s probably been painted over already. But maybe the real art wasn’t the outcome, but the process.

Tiny tiles, big impact ✨

This floor mosaic sits right in front of a window, where the light spills in and brings it to life. Every shard placed by hand, every piece catching the light just right, every color chosen to echo a mural I painted years ago in the same home - wait til the end to see one of my favourite pieces ever!

It’s a quiet tribute, a continuation, a conversation between two works of art across time.

Working on the floor is so meditative and grounding (pun intended).
